Sightseeing, cycling and canoeing

Servas Poznań Poland invites you to explore some beautiful areas of Wielkopolska
Region, in the western part of Poland. It’s a land of forests, lakes, rivers and historical
towns dating back to the first slav rulers.
The main part of the event will be dedicated to canoeing on the river Piława (listed as
suitable for beginners), which winds its way through the forest. A great opportunity to
observe the wild nature of the Polish countryside.
Saturday 15 June
Arrival possible from early Saturday morning.
A sightseeing trip round Poznań ‘The Royal-Imperial Route’,
or cycling in area ‘The hills of Wielkopolska National Park and The Tiver Warta valley’
Cycling will be organized for those arriving by Saturday midday.
In the afternoon we will all meet at the main stage of the Ethno Port festival.
The weekend 13-16 June is very special in Poznan, because of the ETHNO PORT
festival. It’s one of the most significant festivals of ethno-inspired music in Europe.
Accomodation with Servas hosts or a hostel. We advice you to book your accomodation
with servas hosts or a hostel in Poznań well in advance.
Sunday 16 June
Time out in Poznań with Servas and moving to the canoeing area in the afternoon. We start canoeing about 120 km north of Poznań.
Cycling in and around Poznań on Sunday is an option too. ‘Poznan, the fortified city’
Monday 17 June
Two days canoeing on the Rivers Piława and Rurzyca, near Piła. The rivers twist and turn
through the forest, with occasional fallen trees and branches to manoeuvre round. Just the
sounds of the water and wildlife. Look out for kingfishers, cranes, eagles.
The rivers are listed as suitable for beginners. The participants will get basic training.
Safety jackets will come with hired canoes (single or double).
A certain degree of fitness, as well as the ability to swim is assumed. Canoeing will take
about 6 hours a day.
A personal liability statement will be necessary for the canoeing.
Tuesday 18 June
Canoeing on the River Piława
It’s possible to cycle on Monday and Tuesday too, instead of canoeing, but it depends
on the number of bikes available at the canoeing site. ‘Poland- a country of forests, lakes
Wed 19 June – return to Poznań by about midday.
Cycling trips will be about 40-50 km long, usually on sandy roads. No electric bikes
Three nights accomodation at a canoeing center by the river. 22 places available in rooms
and common dormitories; first booked, first served. A campsite with a campfire is on the
site. Further accomodation in the village. Sleeping bags necessary for dormitories, tents
for those who choose to camp.Booking in advance is essential.
Meals will be organized communally, unless booked in advance at the canoeing center.
How to get to Poznań
Poznań airport is situated 20 min from the centre, the main carriers are LOT and
Lufthansa, the budget carriers are Ryanair and Wizzair.
Poznań has a convenient bus and train connection with both Warsaw and Berlin. There are special offers on train tickets too. There are minibuses running between Berlin’s aiports and Poznań.
Transport from Poznań to the canoeing area will be organized.

There are a few options of accomodation and meals to choose from, including self-
Room- 12 euro/ a night in a two person room.
dormitory- 6 euro/ a night per bed
bedding- 3.50 euro
tent- 4 euro/ a night for a tent
Meals (breakfast and evening dinner)10 euro/ a day
Shops and a restaurant are a short distance from the canoeing center.
Estimated cost (accomodation, canoe hire, meals and transport canoes and people at the
canoeing site only):
about 80- 130 euro ( Depending on options chosen)
The estimated price doesn’t include bike hire and transport to the canoeing site.
Registration fee for cycling and canoeing 80 Euro ( To be paid by the end of
Servas members who wish to join us only for the weekend are welcome without any
